When we came to the hospital a few days ago, it seemed like we had enough time for Alexander’s counts to allow us to be discharged before Christmas.  But then, as time wore on and his counts did not rise—and, importantly, he continued to need platelet transfusions—we were prepared for a Christmas in the hospital.  He is, as you know, a ray of sunshine, and he would have a merry Christmas wherever, but we were very discouraged at the prospect of not being home together on Christmas morning.

But—happy news!—we are going home today!  His ANC is rising as it needs to, and he just received platelets to tide him over to Tuesday!  We will never 

more fully appreciate the joys of Christmas than we do this year!
