Alexander is 5 years old today! As I write this, he is almost exactly 5 years old, born at 9:45 pm Eastern on January 10, 2019. Nothing (except Charlotte’s birth) could match the joy we felt then. Alexander has given us and everyone he knows five years of joy. May there be many more years ahead.
On Monday, we went to the hospital to start round 5 of his chemo. This round went smoothly, even more smoothly than others, if that’s possible. We got out of the hospital in plenty of time today to be home for Charlotte’s arrival home from school, which we had rarely if ever done before. But before we left, Christy went out of her way to provide Alexander and the hospital staff with a celebration befitting such a special patient! Alexander enjoyed Mario-themed balloons and decorations and ate delicious cupcakes, and everyone enjoyed Chick-Fil-A breakfast and coffee! The staff made him and us feel very special, with many birthday wishes and a birthday donut.
We think Alexander is a pretty photogenic kid, and Comer Children’s Hospital clearly agrees: the hospital’s marketing department chose him to be the subject of a photoshoot for the hospital’s website! Hardly any wonder to us that they would want his sunny face to be the face of the hospital!
Now, we are back home, and we will be as germ-free as we can, so as to avoid another trip to the hospital for a fever.
Sending HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! wishes and encouragement to Alexander to continue with the celebration of his 5th birthday and the good report on how he is managing his chemo treatment! Stay snug in this winter weather. Here in Chattanooga we’re expecting some snow and single digit temperatures next week from an Arctic front that will be moving in. It’s enjoyable to have a few days of snow, but the Arctic region is welcome to keep its low temperatures! Praying that Alexander’s journey back to good health is an especially blessed one and that his family will receive many blessings along the way as well. My Sunday School class includes his maternal grandparents and we remember Alexander and his family members often in prayer and are following his progress with great interest and hope! – Linda
What a strong young boy!
