We haven’t posted in far too long. We have been focused on the moment and enjoying a wonderful summer filled with travel, experiences, and love. We’ll post more about those experiences in another post, but for now, let us say a huge thank you to Veronika and Bear Necessities and to Karen, Danielle, Emily, Emily, and others at Make-A-Wish.

Now it’s back to real life. After the incident in May, we decided to transfer care back to St. Jude for Alexander’s scans. We received spectacular care there during two of hardest months that we could ever have imagined. We will travel to Memphis on 9/12 for scans on 9/13. That’s Friday the 13th, but we don’t believe in superstition.

Scanxiety is a real thing. It is impossible to describe the way the anxiety escalates as a scan approaches, and another scan is almost upon us. After our experience in May, the semblance of “peace” that one might experience during the time between scans was significantly reduced forever. On Mother’s Day, I (Christy) reflected a lot about what it means to be a parent. When a person becomes a parent, they often don’t realize what that could mean. I will admit I didn’t. The next few days will be stressful, but we will lean on how great he looks, how high his energy is, and how much he loves kindergarten. We will focus on being parents that prioritize a fulfilling life that ensures Charlotte and Alexander understand what it means to give back to the world.

Keep us top of mind now and for all of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
